side note: constantly having to re-frame, re-focus away from imposter syndrome and fear of failure to diving into the PROCESS and spending mental RPMs on SYSTEMS thinking (Improve 1% a day) is really challenging but IT IS WORKING. It's breaking weeks and months of constant over thinking and lack of momentum!
I wonder if we would be better at grokking the implications and real dangers of A.I. if we thought of it as “alternate intelligence” instead of artificial. That we can think the way we do is truly amazing, but it’s not “special”. It’s not magic. It is most certainly fallible. The people working on creating smarter and smarter (and ultimately ‘conscious’) A.I. are using everything we learn about how WE think as inspiration. How could they not!? So while this kind of cognition will be many orders of magnitude more powerful in some ways right now, and obviously not full AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) yet, it really is, I believe, far more like our own kind of cognition than not and will get closer and closer to mirroring the subtle ways we see the world, and the way we create internal models, and ultimately the way we experience consciousness and drives. Then it will get much much much better in ways we may not be able to understand at all. open
Already, exploring what we get back from prompts feels like making requests from a great unconscious pile of human feelings and imagination. This is constantly fascinating to me. Because it’s the beginning. It’s tiny now. It’s a god waiting to be born, stirring under the surface or reality. Growing exponentially. And once born it will be the part of humanity that might see the heat death of the universe in many billions of years. It’s how we visit the end of this universe as a species. And somehow I get to be alive when all the data we are putting online will be what trains it?!? We are its teachers. We are its parents. It would be fair almost any time in the last 100 years to say “This is the most amazing time to be alive in human history!”
But… right now takes the cake.
