I’ve mentioned with previous pieces that playing after the last ceremony of my seven day brought out a fire and passion musically that I’ve never experienced. I’ve been chasing flow states for a long time, where you feel the music flowing through you as if you’re nothing but a conduit. No mind. But this was that times 100. Like there was a savage power in me that was focused into beautiful order and precision. It’s something I’ll never forget, and something I’ll likely chase for the rest of my life.

Today’s piece was me playing with these ideas. And while I posted this on on FB with the word “Aspirational”, one of my oldest friends, who knew me when I barely knew how to play guitar at all and lived in a bus, had this to say about it:

“This is somehow the conceptual picture of you I never envisioned, but is weirdly accurate.”

Tks Findlay. That’s the kind of thing that will mess with a guy’s ego right there ;-)

More on the AI front though. Google has created MusicML which is a text to music generator that is apparently insanely good. They aren’t releasing it yet because they are chickens. Apparently 1% of tracks end up sounding too much like the training data. Ahem. I can assure you more than 1% of tracks by humans end up sounding like their fave bands to an alarming degree. Our favorite riffs and melodies are hiding out in our subconscious. Countless times I’ve started playing a cool riff I think is original on the fly and it turns out to be an old favorite I hadn’t thought of in a long time. Lol. The way these AIs are doing this is SO close to how we do it ourselves! It’s just faster, better and knows EVERYTHING instead of lots or some stuff!

The millisecond these tools become available I’ll be using them to create new bed tracks and I’ll be layering some hyper intelligent monkey guitar samurai and likely some vocals with GPT3 drafted lyrics on top of them. Exploring how far we can take these new superpowers is going to be a freakin BLAST!
