Bailly family's coat of arms - Digital painting,

The Sint-Salvatorskathedraal (Bruges, Belgium) houses a rich artistic heritage, including medieval tombs and tapestries, and is a center for the memory of local historical figures.
I have a particular interest in medieval coats of arms and the history they represent.
This is the coat of arms of the Bailley family. I saw it on a memorial in honor of Joseph-Adrien Le Bailly, Seigneur de Inghmen & Terlinde (1692-1775) located inside the cathedral. He was mayor of Bruges and, according to the monument, he belonged to an old noble family with a military tradition.
It was common at the time for noblemen and influential people who often helped financially with the construction of churches to be buried in special spaces reserved for their families inside the churches. The Sint-Salvatorskathedraal has several of these “VIP” spaces.
After marrying Marie-Charlotte “de Domhoudere” de Schietere, Dame de Tilleghem, Joseph-Adrien Le Bailly became lord of Tillegem Castle, another imposing architectural monument in Bruges.

The coat of arms of the Bailly family shows three golden crescents on a blue background and is supported by two griffins.
The inscriptions in Latin on the monument are the first verse of Psalm 54 and mean: “God, save me by your name, and do me justice by your power”.

Isn't it amazing how much history lies behind a simple coat of arms?
