  • legal A preview or reference monitor is a specialized display device similar to a television set, used to monitor the output of a video-generating device, such as playout from a Film Camera, VCR, or DVD player. They can also be used for color grading if calibrated, during post-production. You may combine two sources on the same device as long as they are in seperate channels (A or B) but of the same number (1 to 29). The saturation of a color is determined by a combination of light intensity and how much it is distributed across the spectrum of different wavelengths. If the intensity drops, then as a result the saturation drops. In an additive color model, three light beams are added together, and their light spectra add to make the final color's spectrum. When the set is turned ON, a click is heard from the Power Relay. About one second later another click is heard from the Degauss Relay. After this a loud hum can be heard and indicates that the degaussing circuit is operating. The set will not degauss properly if turned OFF and ON again quickly. You need to wait a few minutes until the thermistors have cooled to degauss again. If the degaussing circuit is not operating, no hum will be heard when theset is turned ON. It is also likely that purity problems will occur since the tube could become magnetized. If all else fails, just give the damn thing a firm SLAP on the side and it usually knocks the picture back into place for a while! If not, then burn the thing and just have a look through the reflex viewfinder!
